The field is particularly challenging because it requires vigilance against cyberattacks that could disrupt or even destroy systems or the data of companies and organisations.
In the last 10 years cyberattacks have become more sophisticated as hackers attack more digital assets. The severity of attacks increased as criminals attempted to earn money and make money. In response, cybersecurity has come to the top of many companies’ list of priorities. Implementing efficient security tools is crucial for the success of your business because of the risk of losing customers or lawsuits, as well as fines from the regulatory system.
The cost of adopting cybersecurity technology can be prohibitive to SMEs who are operating with tight financial constraints. This study aims to determine the internal and external elements that affect SMEs’ adoptions of cybersecurity technologies. A systematic literature review was conducted using Google Scholar and databases like EBSCO and ProQuest, to identify relevant research papers. To find relevant studies, key terms such as cybersecurity or data breaches were searched for.
This study suggests that technological characteristics and perceived usefulness are the most important drivers of the adoption of cybersecurity technology in SMEs. Additionally, IT modularity and observability are positively correlated with the adoption of cybersecurity technology within SMEs.
